Sicily in a week - Taormina

1st of all HAPPY NEW YEAR!! i know i'm kind of late, been so busy and well, a little lazy also to organize my pictures and to write new entries, FINALLY I've finished organizing my final entry for Sicily post Taormina.

Taormina is one of my favourite town to visit in Sicily. It's beautiful, clean and lots to see for a small town. As we had limited time in Sicily, from Siracusa we did only a day trip to Taormina, and headed back the same day to Siracusa from Taormina in the evening though we would like to stay longer

from the Siracusa bus "terminal" (more like a bus stop) we took the interbus to Taormina. For round trip bus ticket cost 16.90Euro/ pax. one can buy the ticket at the bus terminal there is a small booth

we took a early bus i think it was at 8:30am. we couldn't remember whether we bought the ticket on the same day or the day before any way, if it's not really a peak season buying ticket on the travel day is possible. From Siracusa to Taormina there is a stop over @ airport Catania. Travel time about 2- 2.5 hours. The scenery along the way was really enjoyable. we even saw the Mount Etna

after 2.5 hours ride

view from the bus going up hill to the bus terminal

from Taormina one can also do other Excursions

gondola

small town of Taormina

there is also a tourist information there but sadly there were out of Maps , but thanks to Carol's ideal we went to the nearest hotel to get a map

beautiful antique shop

churches

whole stretch of pretty shops. Souvenirs shop, cafes and etc. it's really lovely to roam around

these guys again

they sell everything

lunch!!! Sicilian delicacy, Arancini and deep fried ricotta. I would recommend the Arancini with meat or the spinach, cheese is just not my thing

to the ancient Greek Amphitheater. Entrance fee is 8 Euro/ adult and half price for student
alittle pricy but what can one do it's a must see!!

me @ Teatro Greco aka. Greek Amphitheater.

me with the view of Taormina

the coastline simply breathtaking the view

panorama view, we can even see Mt Etna from there...the mount far in the background with clouds

apart from the beautiful Greek amphitheater and obliviously this pretty lady here the view from the theater down the coastline is AMAZING!!!

simply POW WOW!!!

ok back to the amphitheater. Although it's called Greek amphitheater there has been debates among experts whether it's Greek or Roman. Long story short there are evidence of ancient Greek building technique and what the Roman did was only enlarge the theater as it's too small

me again. at one of the most popular photography angle of this theater

panorama view

my postcard shot

next Corso Umberto, is Taormina central street. Many historic buildings and of course more souvenir shops means more shopping

don't the capsicum look real? yup it's a fake

love these pasta magnet...hehehe but 6 Euro is a bit too much. even the real stuff is not so expensive

baby farm???

there are also many narrow alleys so explore

Piazza XI Aprile, the center of Taormina

many historic building are located at this very piazza, on the left is the Torre dell'Orologio, a medieval clock tower from the 12th century through it leads to the oldest part of Taormina

bottom middle picture is the public library also former church of St. Augustine

here one can also take beautiful panoramic view pictures of the coastline @ the Panoramic Terrace

that turquoise blue water makes me want to jump in the sea

^^

going through the clock tower

Romeo and Juliet stairs??? don't be foul it's just a restaurant name..hehe

i am not sure what this is but it's really interesting

Piazza del Duomo

next we decided to head to Isola bella and spend the rest of the day lazy by the beach. we went back to where we came from to take the mini bus to Isola Bella.

single trip cost 1Euro/pax. ticket are available on the bus

it talks about 10 minutes to get to Isolabella from the bus stop

tip: always remember to bring bikini where ever you go...never know when u might need a quick cool dip in the sea

who can resist not jumping in

found our spot...it's gorgeous
there was no free changing room so we hide behind bushes, thank god for big towels

though the water is shallow it's freezing cold the water

time to head back to syracusa. I would definitely recommend Taormina, it's better to stay 2 nights here rather than do a day trip, at least they have beaches here compare to Syracusa. The next day we took the 3 hours direct bus from Syracusa to Palermo and from there take another bus back to Trapani and headed home.
Overall it was a wonderful summer time trip. Sicily is one of the and worth visiting in Italy. It is also a nice place to visit during winter time at least the weather is nicer compare to Germany.

Yippy!!! i did it....after 6 months i finally finish my Sicily entries.
I had fun girls!!!

~ ciao ~
