Sicily in a week - Segesta

Though our Sicily trip doesn't include Agrigento to see the ancient Greek temple but fortunately there is an ancient city not very far away from Trapani named Segesta. I think it's kind of the same thing. So we made a day trip to Segesta

from Trapani we took a bus for about half and hour to Segesta

there is this Tarantola bus that takes you directly to the Greek archaeological site. Cost about 6.20Euro/ pax for a round trip. The ticket are sold on the bus itself

Segesta Woo Hoo!!! Segesta was one of the main cities of the Elymians, people according to ancient tradition came from Troy

the landscape there is really beautiful

entrance ticket for the Temple and the theater are 6Euros

going up to the Doric temple

Doric temple and i

this big 6 x 14 columns temple was remained incomplete, well they said it was probably due to the taking over of the city by The Carthaginians (Tunisia) in 409 BC

details of the temple

the back part of the temple

i probably took too much pictures of the temple and it's annoying but it's just so darn majestic

a small dark colored snake decided to make an appearance on one of the column cracks.
Probably the temple guardian out for his routine checks?

beautiful landscape at the back of the temple

kind of a valley

snails resting on the tree

:P

breathtaking view of a summer day surrounding the temple

it's actually really peaceful and nice to walk around the area but the sun was so god d@mn hot

the theater is just on the summit of the opposite hill (monte barbaro) from the temple,
one can take a nice slow hike up the hill or

for the lazy people like us we took the shuttle mini bus up the hill
:)

remaining of the city's agora

what it used to look like, dating back Hellenism (last decades of the 2nd century BC)

going up

there is (or was)also a small church that was built in 1442 by citizens of Calatafimi, which they built over a former bigger church probably dating back xii - xiii century that which belong to the medieval village.

amazing view from the summit. i really do love the patches of different shades of green and brown with different sizes, like a big beautiful quilt

i wasn't paying much attention to a group of people that were gathering in a corner like a swamp of bees surrounding the bee hives because i was busy taking pictures of the beautiful view until one guy handed me a paper plate and asked whether i would like to try the food... i took a peep and i was like .... wow don't mind if i do.. the food was yummy and the fruits was OMG juicy and yummylicious.

didn't know the 6Euro entrance fee includes lunch....lol but i was glad they did, we were freaking hungry

time to hit the road....again we took the shuttle bus down the hill

total visit time about 3 hours is enough

Segesta is really worth the trip, it's really easy to get there and beautiful place, i totally recommend this awesome place.

Next we headed to Palermo one of sicily's interesting and vibrant city just 1.5 hours east bus ride from Trapani
