I've been planning my Mexico trip for months, from where to visit, food, to learning some of the basic Spanish words(trust me you should), and finally this thanksgiving we had an almost wonderful trip to mexico(yes almost)
itinerary for 10 days : starting from Mexico City (spend 4 nights) - Playa Del Carmen (1 night) -Tulum (2 nights) - Cancun (1 night) - Mexico City (1 night)
Day 1
Had a long day flying early morning from California, by the time we are in Mexico City Airport it was already 3:30pm(local time +2HR) from the airport we took Uber to our hotel in Roma. Uber is the best way to travel around in Mexico City, way cheaper compare to taxi(they dont run meter just a sheet of laminated paper which show "official price". Our ride cost $160 pesos roughly about $8USD for 2 person. We notice that all Uber cars doesn't have the Uber sticker on their cars (due to some complication said one of the drive that we asked, my bet is on the taxi Group) but it's perfectly safe and they drive better than taxi drive in my opinion).
the drive was about 25 minutes, traffic in Mexico City is bad (just like in Penang, 2 lanes become 4 lanes)
weather was nice all we need was a light jacket. Its like California weather dry and cool as Mexico City is at a higher elevation about 2842 meter above sea and surrounded with several mountains, however the air quality there is really bad. Everyday it's very hazy.
Roma
Roma it's kind of a hipster area where there are lof of restaurants, cafes and bars
book store with cafe, nice place to hangout with friends
Roma and Condesa(just next to Roma) neighborhoods founded in 1902 with a french, eclectic and art deco style. Back in the days it was a site far from the center of the city full of paddocks and inhabited mainly by workers and when the politician Pedro Lascurain acquired lands and built a neighborhood away from the Historical Center so that the upper class could live far from the noise.
In the mid-20th century modernization and European influence, made them so popular that they became the home of designers, writers and artists. This is the areas i would recommend to stay in Mexico City!!!!
local favorite snack.....chips with salsa sauce. It's a little spicy and tangy quite appetizing.
The people here are friendly
it's much more chill here and less crowded

The server here don't speak English however they have English menu.
In fact most mexican in Mexico City don't speak much English, hence i learned few basic Spanish words or just use google translate
really yummy. It's pricey but the food quality was good and service was fast and efficient. Be prepare to pay US price
we had the marinated tuna loin tacos and a grill whole red snapper that comes with sides and a piece of chocolate cake for dessert.
our total dinner was $1,204.20 pesos about $60USD propina included(tip).
yes they take credit card. oh ya they don't serve FREE water here in MEXICO. we order tab water but we got a bottle water for $80 pesos
after dinner we walked around more and bought some water @ convenient store which is literally one every block. Price for a large water bottle is about $12- 15pesos. Head back to our hotel and call it a day....Next day gonna start early to Teotihuacan.
