Camping season it's officially on!!! however camping in spring can be risky because of the ever changing weather. We decided to try our luck and booked our camping trip for 2 nights during memorial weekend.
A week before our camping trip it was raining the whole week, I started to panic! it would be really sucky if it rains when we camp. Thank god we were blessed with beautiful weather and temperature was just nice( 26celcius to 9 celcius at night) a little chilly at night but I sleep like a baby with our triple layer of blankets.
This years 1st camping trip we decided to explore Ausable Chasm, a sandstone gorge located in the Adirondack region of upstate NY. aka the " Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks " and it's an hour away from the Canada boarder
Rainbow Falls
There are hiking trails( abit short for my taste)the view is beautiful, Adventure trails(as in the picture with narrow cable to walk on, rock climbing, rafting, tubing( only during summer, it was not open yet when we were there, water too cold) and rappelling tour
Price starts from $29.99 - $ 99.98
we stayed at their campground so we were given a little discount
I like the campground, it nice, good size, flat even ground,
only 1 thing I don't like it less private, it's more open and if your neighbor snores you will hear it..hehe
the bbq pit was new
our campsite cost about $25/ night the usual price *with no hook-ups
or $22/ night for weekdays
there are campsite with electric and water too for booking
for more info----->
simple camping food
the next day after a heavy breakfast we start our adventure
we took the classic tour, which is the basic one includes rafting and the admission fee cost $ 29.99/pax but we got a $2.50 discount / pax
elephant head
Rainbow falls and Rainbow bridge only missing is rainbow
the trails are easy but it's not wheelchair accessible
more cable bridge for the Adventure trail
raft launching area
it was a mild ride, only a short part where you have this rapid water area
the water was pretty calm
this was our 1st rafting experience I'm glad that it was a mild one. Maybe more extreme rafting in the future
there was a movies filmed here back in the 1912( perils of Pauline) where a stuntman and a horse leap off from this cliff and he was only paid $3, I hope it's like $30,000 back in those days. The horse and the stuntman suffer only minor injuries
our guide told us no one fell into the water yet this year, I guess he is the 1st
the rapid water area, it's not that bad and my camera didn't even get wet
there are also a few "dry" chasm trail, which was slightly more difficult but it's still an easy hike
We did enjoy our little camping / hiking trip, and this kick start our adventure for this year!!! hopefully more to come
~ till next trip~
