Mr A. Gaudi's preciousss

One thing about traveling around Europe is that the architecture is all almost the same. Mostly Gothic or Roman or extravagant castles. Going to Barcelona and seeing Antoni Gaudi's work really a breath of fresh air of Europe's architecture. Not that i'm an expert but after few trip thats what i think.

Mr Gaudi who are the big BRO of Modernist architecture, was born in 1852. When he was young, he was marked by a rheumatic disorder characterized. So he didn't got to go out and play like other normal kids instate his mother would entertained him with walks in the countryside and the observation of nature. That's why his architecture style are nature-influenced.

Casa Batllo in Barcelona (night view), it's now in the list of UNESCO cultural heritage

currently it's owned by Bernat family, which in 1995 initiated an extensive restoration. The facade is based particularly on the gentle waves and the rich color, and also it gives the legend of St. George. The roof is the dragon, St George has struggled against the cross on the roof. The balconies stand for skulls. He worked together with Josep Maria Jujol on the facade.

one of my favorite, Casa Mila. Mr. Gaudi made it sophisticated natural ventilation air-conditioning unnecessary and even an underground car park. The balconies's railings were designed by Josep M. Jujol.

it was built as homes and offices on the manufacturer of textile, Pere Calvet.

now a restaurant... hehe

another favorite of mine, Parc Guell. from year 1900 - 1914 it was built. Although it's not 100% completed because of lack of funding, it's still a very beautiful park.
the column resembles the pine tree, was built with stone quarried within the park. Bird nest have been installed in the walkways(see the holes?)

unique shape of bench. The bench is tiled and in order to dry up quickly after rains, and also to stop people from sitting in the wet part, small bumps were installed by Gaudi.
What is not to love about Gaudi? ><>

from this square you can see a beautiful view of Barcelona...there is always people singing or performing so it's an interesting atmosphere

few of Gaudi's unique Tiled Mosaic design on the ceiling.
love the color combination and design.

Casa Vicens, built in the period 1883-1889 and it was Gaudi's 1st important work. He designed and built for industrialist Manual Vicens. Vicens, was the owner of a brick and tile factory, so the ceramic tiles pay tribute to his employment.
The yellow, zinnia-flowered tile, design by Gaudi and was manufactured by Vicens. good combo!
oh ya! also added to UNESCO

Last but not least, the famous Sagrada Familia, a large Roman Catholic church. The construction commerced in 1882, Gaudi took over in 1883, and turn the project with his architectural and engineering style. Gaudi devoted his last years to this project till his death in 1926.
Construction passed the mid-point in 2010 and an anticipated completion date of 2026 - the centennial of Gaudi's death.

this is Josep Maria Subirachs, a sculpture and painter of the late 20th century.
he designed the Passion Facade of Sagrada Familia.

Gaudi's inspirations

the Passion Facade (the main entrace for now)

The cryptogram invented by Subirachs is a board with multiple combination of number that always add up to 33, the age of Christ at the moment of his death.
the two repeated numbers, 10 & 14. If they are added together the sum is 48, the same resultas the addition of the letter if INRI (Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum) according to the numerical order of the Latin alphabet.

Subirachs's sculpture

the balls looking with colors are fruits from different season

interior

the interior of the church is like a huge jungle

the heal the wound produced when cutting off a tree branch a scar forms, which Gaudi incorporated into the design of the capitals of the columns in the church main nave, as a naturalistic element of this great forest(picture bottom right)

looking down underground

beautiful color window

one of the chapel Organ

nice

the interior gets alot of the lighting from outside through the special designed window. So really different from other Gothic church which need alot of light and candles

Gazing up the massive supporting columns, one can only be amazed by their ceiling.

every little detail are taken cared by Gaudi

alot of Gaudi's design are really futuristic. From his draft some of the structure that he drew can't be built then, hoping what is impossible back then is possible to built now.
he was one smart man

cool ^^

can't snap enough
hehe~

beautiful lighting from the window

Boon @ Sagrada Familia

so detail

it's nice to sit there and just enjoy the beautiful sculptures

taken from a small park across the street
a nice spot to get a overall picture of Nativity Facade. :)

Besides all these beautiful designed, Gaudi also built El Palau Guell, Bellesguard, Colegio Teresiano and Pabellones Guell. Maybe next time!
2026 i'll be back Barcelona
Adios Mr A. Gaudi my man!><
