the walls tells the story of the battle between the Gods and Giants
i was amazed seeing this Pergamon Alter from 2nd century BC
the model of the Pergamon alter in it's original structure
not all are original because it was badly damage during the world war II
model of the original site of the market gate. Its strong impression of the splendour of Roman cities, among which Miletus, as a trading centre
under the gate of Miletus
Joyce & i @ Ishtar Gate
the Ishtar Gate (605 - 562 BC) exemplifies the monumental architecture of the cities of Ancient Mesopotamia. Love the richness of the color ^^
all these sacred animals covers the walls are the "creation" of the Babylonian to protect the entrance of the fortress. eg: the Lion of Ishtar, the Bull of Adad, the Gragon of Marduk. if you look carefully the animals are kind of unique, snake head, unicorn & chicken feet? hehe
bronze figures of "karma sutra" hahaa
these symbols( combination man & bird) offered protection against enemies
model of Marduk Temple of Babylon
Segment from the facade of the Inanna Temple built by the Kassite ruler Kara-indash Uruk (1413 BC)
love the design, they push this round thingy to the mud to create a solid wall
the water basin(704-681 BC), on the corner and in the centre of each side are depictions of the watergods holding overflowing waterjug wearing fish skin cloak. It says that this water basin was used for cultic purification rites. why fish skin cloak ?? hehe
next to the New Museum
The building suffered severe damage too in the WWII. It is open to the public on October 2009, after being closed for some 70 years.
this is the Stairway hall
Colossal statue of Helius, Roman Empire (2nd half of 2nd century AD)
i wonder why he look a little angry
male figures with high conical head piece.... i think i know where "the Simpsons" idea came from :P. On the right female figure holding her breast....?
there is this 1 portrait head of Nefertiti, it is just gorgeous ( too bad they don't allow photograph) a must see!
head of a statue of queen Tiy with double feather crown, one of my favorite also. The details are just amazing, she even have ear rings :S
artifacts of Germania
evil cupid and cult image
