Pulau Aman, Penang, Malaysia

Finally after almost 2 months with no new posting...it's not my fault!!! well, 1st it's because of my trip to Japan then followed by another trip back to Malaysia and 2nd i got problem with my antique computer over in here ( btw i'm still in Malaysia :P ), so it took me almost few weeks just to uploads these pictures here....i almost vomited blood over entry.

Anyway firstly I'm not gonna blog about my Japan trip yet. Oh well! not the mention the speed of this computer here and the total of more than 2 thousand pictures to choose ( with my photography skill, sometimes it's kind of hard to choose because all are GOOD...hahaha! :P ) and to compile them together, let just say that i prefer to use my pc back in Germany. But i do hope to post it soon once i get back to Germany in August.

Last few weeks, my family brought me to this 'new' place for fresh seafood in Penang! It's not actually a new place but a place where people have long forgotten about, mainly because of it's location i think.

This 'new' place is called Pulau Aman or in English, Island of Peace. Pulau Aman is a very small island in Penang and home to a traditional Malay fishing village. People on this island are mostly fisherman. well duh! it's a fishing village

finally almost an hour drive from Butterworth to Batu Kawan we reached the Batu Kawan Jetty. I know 1 hour. Some people fly their private jet to Hong Kong for Dim Sum or Paris for a romantic dinner or god knows where, but we, Malaysian drive more than 1 hour to a remote places to get good food...it's pretty common. we are crazy! :D

from this jetty we then took a boat ride to Pulau Aman. Price are RM6 (round trip) for adult as for kids age between 7-12 years old cost RM4 (round trip). There is also a time table for the boat ride, more frequent during weekends.

To avoid large crowds we went during weekdays. We did avoid crowds alright but we waited for the boat almost 2 hours :S

from the Batu kawan jetty we saw the nearby area where the fisherman breed sea fishes, prawns and other sea creature to cater Penang folks. Also see the island on the left? that's Pulau Aman!

don't worry it's this type of small boat or sampan ...hehe

not this one also...this is a private boat cater for teachers in Pulau Aman. Yes! Pulau Aman also have their own school.
The boat to Pulau Aman is only slightly bigger than this one and also with a roof for shade...thank god. unfortunately i didn't took any picture of the boat but u get the idea

note: they don't have life jacket...kind of on your own risk! the RM6 fee does NOT include travel insurance :P

the boat ride took less than 10 minutes to reached our destination.
Welcome to Pulau Aman. It is peaceful that's for sure

when we reached the Batu Kawan jetty was at about 1:30pm waited the boat until 3pm and at 3:10pm then only we manage to reach the island. That is one damn long hours for seafood...this better be good!

traditional Malay kampung house. I think i saw a home stay sign here. Who ever that are interested to experience the real Malaysian traditional Malay fishing village, can consider this place but WARNING no Facebook or Twitter on this island :D

from the jetty we walked quickly to the seafood seller. Sometimes if you are too late all the good stuff are gone. Luckily we manage to grab some fresh mantis prawns..uh la la and some crabs too...muhaha.this 1 bucket mantis prawn cost about RM40 I'm not sure how many kilos but enough to feed 6 hungry adults. The seller was also kind enough to gave us 2 free mantis prawns. Guess it's our lucky day @v@

after we've shopped what we want...we headed to the local restaurant just beside the seafood seller to cook these fresh mantis prawns for us. if I'm not mistaken they charge us RM7 for the cooking fee

Restaurant Terapung or Floating Restaurant in English

here you are offered a piece of paper to write down your orders.

they have Mee udang (Prawn noodles), Mee goreng udang (Fried noodle with prawns), Bihun udang (Rice vermicelli with prawn), Nasi goreng udang ( Fried rice with prawns) and Koay teow udang (rice-cake-strips noodle with prawns).

all the above dishes are RM6/ plate with 3 medium size prawns. if you want more prawns that will cost u RM10/ plate.
the food was yummy or mayb i was just too hungry and the mantis prawns were freaking fresh and u can taste the sweetness of the Mantis prawns. Overall i was very satisfied

from the cleanliness of our plates u know it's daimm.. good

after a full late lunch :) we took a short stroll around and back to the jetty

it's been a while since i last saw this kind of scene. The good old peaceful days. Kampung or village life are peaceful, simple and family members are more close to each other.

Once a while we city folks really do need to learn from the kampung people to stop and relax once a awhile and not rushing here and there for wealth and career. chillex! :)

heading back

oh ya the last boat out from Pulau Aman to Batu Kawan jetty is at 6pm

there is also a contact number here if you need any enquirers

god knows when will i post new entry again but I'll try my best(to get my pc to run) or I'll just have to wait till i get back to Germany!

stay tune!

~ bye bye ~
