Sicily in a week - Trapani

Before i headed to Sicily, someone told me it's dangerous in south of Italy, pickpockets, mafia....yup MAFIA!! but spending a week there really confirms that wasn't the case. The people there were really friendly and helpful, and the drivers are really polite. I love it!!!

Though it was just one week in Sicily we make full use of our time. From Trapani - Palermo - Enna - Siracusa - Taormina and back again to Trapani and fly back home. It was a very ambitious itinerary but we managed it!

and our adventure begins. From Trapani airport we easily took the bus to Trapani town for half and hour cost 4.70Euro / pax. Also one can take a direct bus (Terravission) to Palermo from the Airport cost 10.60Euro one way.

we reach Trapani about noon and checked in to our rental apartment. We booked a 4 persons apartment with toilet attached cost 75Euro / night so 18.75Euro/pax. It was not bad but slightly noisy in the evening.

after a quick bite for lunch we walked around along the beach

very clear and i saw little fishies

we'll be back

me doing my sexy pose in Trapani

my travel mates, crazy women..hehe

Piazza Mercato del Pesce or fish market square, i think during the weekend it is used for fish market during the day and during evening it's a craft market selling really interesting items from ear rings to music instruments

the "happening" area where lots of cafes and restaurants , not sure what's the street name but it's in the old town area

also alot of interesting stuff there ;)

love their post box

MR Nunzio Nasi, was the President of the province of Trapani.

some small church around the old town

odd looking trees

this one look like a cow looking human hanging on the tree...hahaha

the Madonna del Porto

after a long walk we decided to dip our tired leg in the sea water. It was deliciously cooling

had a great view too

sea salt scrub?

me with a nice view of the Mount Erice

some local sweets

more treats

heart of the old town, the medieval areas

narrow streets

nice looking gate of a church

one of favorite picture of Trapani sunset. So peaceful and romantic. I'm not sure whether Trapani normally don't have much tourists or is it just summer is still early??

dinner at some fancy restaurant in the old town. Since it was our 1st day there so we treat ourselves in a slightly upscale restaurant

the food was so so and the prices was as expected in this location. My risotto was not bad but the swordfish pasta tasted nothing like swordfish more like can sardine... disappointing!!! one thing i hate dining in Italy, restaurants they have this seat charges (average 2 Euro per person)

night view of the Palazzo Senatorio(senate hall), originally built in the 15th century

even in the evening we have no problem walking around in Trapani, we felt really safe and enjoy the charm of Trapani

another interesting place to visit in Trapani is Mount Erice. From the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele we took the atm bus 21 to the cable way of Mount Erice, took about just 10-15 minutes ride. The bus cost 1.20Euro and valid for 90 minutes.

the cable way. It was quite expensive cost about 9Euro/ pax 2 way but the mountain is quite high up.
These is also a information center on top to get a map

it was really cold an cloudy that day. We didn't expect it to be so darn freezing.

thank god for my batik!!! tip: bring a light jacket, just in case

we were really unlucky, it was simply just to cloudy to see the beautiful view of Trapani from the top
tip: make sure you don't go up when it's cloudy

the Norman Castle and the Venus Temple

and additional 5Euro if one wish to visit the castle. We decided to skipped it as we were short on time

a slight blurry view of Trapani from the mount Erice. I was so disappointing with the weather

freezing cold me with the castle

the back view of the castle

i bet when the weather is good...the view would be spectacular

hey it's Mr Nasi again

the cobbled streets are quite slippery

narrow alleyway, it can be quite spooky here where there no one around...boo

there are also alot of small souvenir shops, they sell jackets :D

nice fishies

wild flowers and cherries

taking bus 21 back to the piazza

this building reminds me of the Dancing house building in Prague of the irregular windows :)

Trapani has also nice beaches get a nice tan or a cool dip in the Mediterranean sea

mount Erice from the beach

there is also wind mill nearby, like the one is Marsala at the salt pans

i guess we don't have to make a visit to Marsala after all just to see the wind mills

i wonder if that is a ancient ruin or just a dump?

Overall Trapani is a small, quiet, relax town with friendly locals, so if that is what you want, Trapani is the best place in Sicily to visit

Next a one day trip to Segesta from Trapani

~ ciao ~
