Finally I get to explore a new continent, America! well, part of it. My first voyage to the New World. USA is not really a foreign place to me, i mean i watch alot of US dramas on TV, also Hollywood movies. So i'm really excited to finally see the places that i saw on TV and in Movies. Where better to start than the capital of United State of America.
Funny story when my hubby told me that we will be going to Washington. I was like ok, I'll check the map. He said we will drive there from New York. I asked " How long does it take to drive there from NY?" he answered "well about 5 hours". I was like, 5 hours not bad for what it seem in the Map, the distance from NY to Washington was really really far away. Then i said " It seems that Washington is quite near to Vancouver, are we going there too?" He then looked at me with a puzzled frown. He said "we are going to Washington DC!"....boy was that embarrassing. How was i supposed to know there are 2 Washington
my smart a$$ hubby
anyway, Washington DC basically divided to 2 parts. The monuments trail and the Museums trail. Well maybe 3 parts The government buildings trail
As always i took too many pictures that i have to post parts by parts. We'll start with the monuments trail
1st stop the Washington Monument, built in 1848-1884 to commemorate George Washington, the 1st American President. One can go up to the Obelisk
It's was closed to the public when we went in April
for infos -----> http://www.nps.gov/wamo/planyourvisit/feesandreservations.ht
we were so lucky, it's was full bloomed cherry blossom season,
hence the ridiculous amount of pictures that i took.... : P
flower everywhere
admiring the flower and monument
there was also some sort of a parade going on
street food carts
walked south of Washington monument is the Tidal Basin
beautiful beautiful place during cherry blossom season
Tidal basin, a man-made inlet adjacent to the Potomac River. It was created in the late 19th century
background is the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, built in 1939-1943
there was crowded
me going crazy
weather was abit warm then i expected for spring but it was a perfect day
view from the Outlet Bridge
we with a smart looking army. He even let me touch his rifles
Thomas Jefferson Memorial close up
it's huge. Statue of Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd president of United State of America, the author of the declaration of Independence and advocate fro individual freedoms
there is also a George Mason Memorial, i don't know how, but i missed it
gorgeous pink magnolias
taking the inlet bridge
i guess it's built in 1909?
view of the tidal basin from the Inlet bridge
timing was great for this shot
walking toward Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial
one of my fav shot of the Tidal Basin and Thomas Jefferson Memorial
Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial
the Japanese pagoda, a gift from the Mayor of Yokohama, Japan in 1957.
with the Cherry Blossom at the background does look like we were in Japan
there was actually a long queue to take picture with President Roosevelt here
Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial
the line " with the faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope " I Have a Dream" speech
DC War Memorial, to commemorate the 26k citizens of Washington DC who served in WWI
walking further up north west is the Lincoln Memorial
i always though there would be alot of things to see inside the memorial because of the size of the monument
but there is only Abraham Lincoln statue
this is the famous spot where Martin Luther King Jr gave his " i have a dream" speech in 1963
view of the reflecting pool from Lincoln memorial
heading east along the reflecting pool
to World War II Memorial
dedicated to Americans who served in the armed forces and as civilians during the WWII. There are 56 pillars and a pair of small triumphal arches surrounding the fountain
walking around to visit the monuments is enough to occupied one whole day
time to break under the cherry blossom with a hot dog
next would be the Museums and Government buildings trail
~ good day ~
