Day 4 of our road trip. From Cleveland we are heading to Shipshewana, Indiana. Our last stop before Chicago. During my research for our road trip i read somewhere that suggested that we stop over Shipshewana to check out this Amish community. I was intrigue so i make sure we are there on a Tuesday. This small town is famous for their Flea market and it's the biggest one in the Midwest and it's ONLY open on every Tuesday and Wednesday, from the 1st week in May through 1st Saturday in October
takes about 3.5 hours - 4 hours driving from Cleveland to Shipshewana. Felt excited when i saw this sign....hehehe I do love US, every state has different interesting road sign. Totally Awesome!!!
omg just like in the movies
before we go around taking ridiculous amount of photos of carriages, time for a nice lunch of Amish home-style cooking. There is one just right infront of the Flea Market, Auction Restaurant
i order their meatloaf, taste not bad to me, i was really hungry, Boon order a Reuben sandwich was abit dry and too salty for our taste. I would say the food was rather average. Lunch cost about $20
after our lunch, walked over to the Flea Market, which has over hundreds of stalls and admission is FREE. Open from 8am -5pm
selling all kinds of things from local fruits to arts and craft
late summer. Peach season
crowd was not too bad, it's a little like Malaysia's night market
Ice cream machine built in the 1919
Boon lining up for his ice cream. Can taste the whole milk flavor and not the low fat nonsense
colorful clothes
they even sell guns here.....why am i not surprise??
cute kid's boots
can't believe it....they even have Pokemon cards....lol $1/card
antique auction building, they even have livestock and horse auction
this place reminds me of the 2nd hand shop in Dresden what i used to go
i guess this is a water tray use to deliver water for the farmers working on the field
pocket watch
there is also a visitor center
one can also ride one of this carriage(not sure how much), i even saw a pumpkin carriage...totally funny it's somewhat like in the Cinderella movie.
we then walk around the town along the main street, visiting some of the small shops.
It's a rather interesting town to stopped by for a short visit if you are curious like me(this is the 1st time i see Amish people) about the Amish community. However i would not recommend overnight stay in this town. Hotels\ inns are expensive(all above $100) and you can finish visiting this town in 2-3 hours in my opinion. For a young couple like us spending more hours than we need in this town would be too boring
though we had to overnight somewhere, we drove about 20 minutes west to Elkhart, to our inn. Price are much cheaper(Red roof inn $68 tax included) there and lots of restaurant options
another relaxing day on our Day 4 road trip. Next day Chicago!!! Our highlight road trip destination
~ end of road trip Day 4 ~
