4 national parks in a week, 2nd stop Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming - Day 1 - Part 2

continue our journey in west Yellowstone, USA's 1st national park that house over 10,000 geysers, hot springs, steam vent and mudpots. A place not to missed!!!

just 5 minutes drive up north from the famous Old faithful is Black Sand Basin, well we could walked from Old faithful but it's just too much to take in one day

Cliff Geyser viewing area

Cliff Geyser erupts

super hot

Black obsidian (Volcanic Glass), "sand" gives this geyser basin its name

love the color

we saw a numbers of hats near the geysers...so if u want to wear a hat, make sure it doesn't fly off your head easily... the wind here was crazy at times

close up

Rainbow pool

Sunset Lake, the clouds was blocking the sun again,
make sure don't come here on a cloudy day, the pool's color is much dull

luckily the sun came out again

Rhyolite Cliff, were created after the last eruption in this region, about 630,000 years ago

another hat

the land is very fertile

Emerald Pool

one last picture hehe

nature's art is the best

next stop another nearby attraction, Biscuit Basin

Black Opal Spring

it does have a little opal color

love the vibrant color

amazing

close up on the microbes

instant artwork right here, i am blown away by its beauty

another favorite of mine Sapphire Pool

the temperature of this spring is about 93Celsius

history of the place : in 1959 an earthquake  recorded at 7.5 just a few miles away, 4 days later Sapphire pool began to erupt violently blowing away the large rock biscuits around the crater. Biscuit Basin was named for those biscuit shape mineral formations

Jewel Geyser, it use to be Soda Geyser, i think prefer Soda Geyser better

Shell Spring

Avoca Spring

as we were about to leave, suddenly we notice a Bison some distance away enjoying his afternoon snacks.... OMG we are so lucky, but then again it's quite easy to find Bison in Yellowstone...they seem to be everywhere, on the road, meadows.....etc

Boon with Bison
safe distance

as the Bison approached, we back up

but there are a few who are crazy, most probably smartphone and digital camera user

2 idiots, thank god no one was harm.
it was in the news that a 16 year old girl was posing for a photo near a bison (within 6ft where the National Park Service advises to be at least 69ft away) when the beast lunged forward and gored her. She didn't die but was seriously injured

of course you are going to be seriously injured...i mean look at the beast,
and yet the crowded just getting bigger

Midway Geyser Basin, place i wanted to visit the most...MUST visit!!!!

map of the place

water from Excelsior Geyser overflowing to the Firehole river

it was late summer when we went can't imagine coming here during the summer time. will be very hot

History of the Excelsior Geyser : in 1880 it erupted and bursts 50-300 ft high, The thermal violence rupture the geyser's underground system, causing eruption to cease after 1890.
however in 1985, Excelsior roared back to life with 47 hours of major eruptions.

sizzling hot

view of Turquoise Pool from Excelsior Geyser

approaching the Grand Prismatic Spring, one of the star of Yellowstone

interesting pattern

Grand Prismatic Spring

the high temperature of its water is 70Celsius ensures that the spring is often cloaked in steam.
it was quite hot when the steam blows our war. again don't come during summer....i think autumn would be nice

actually the best place to see the Grand Prismatic Spring is from the hill behind but according to the Ranger it's close for public and it's dangerous. oh well i'm already very very happy with the view here

Yellowstone's largest hot spring

it's also the most brilliant of Yellowstone's colorful hot spring

can't get enough of this....i was at awe the whole time

the intense blue in the middle is due to sunlight being scattered by dine particles suspended in the water

as for the yellow, orange and brown color are cause by heat loving microorganism, thermophiles. These microbes contain colorful pigment that allows them make energy from sunlight and thrive in the harsh condition of hot springs

all this is nature's color palette

Opal Pool

Turquoise Pool

last stop Lower Geyser Basin

Silex Spring

Fountain Paint Pots

it used to called Mammoth Paint Pots

close up
the bubbling sound of the mudpots it's like in some chemist lab

Leader Pool

constant changing Red Spourter, fumahole. steam vent when were we there.
it sounded like a presume cooker releasing the steam

love this picture

headed down to see more geyser and hot springs

there is a Celestine  Pool here, There was big news about 24 years old guy who tried to save his friend's dog, which escaped from their truck and ran to a nearby hot spring and jump in. the guy jump in to rescue the doc despite warning from other people nearby. well long story short both the guy and the dog didn't make it.
Another sad tragedy in this beautiful place.
well i can't believe i didn't snap a photo of Celestine Pool, it looks like most of the hot spring pool here and there was not guardrail

Clepsydra Geyser erupting, with a beautiful backdrop

it was almost 6:30pm when we tried to drive to your hotel

on our way out, we had a stop over at one scenic stop, and we spotted an elk enjoy his grass.
see that small dot on the right?

well this is the best i can zoom in on the elk

quite the chubby one

and elk shit,
looks pretty different.

we then took a left turn at Madison to the West Entrance to exit.
that take a nice 30 minutes.

we had a nice Mexican fajitas for dinner at the nearby town and drove another 30 minutes to our hotel in Idaho state. the cheapest we could find which cost $89/ night. the hotel near to the West entrance was too expensive. cost almost 150/ night for a skanky motel

it's quite a drive away but it's nice nice and cozy, they even have a indoor pool, not that we have the time to use it

Day 1 in Yellowstone was alot of walking and so many to see. i think we walked more then 30,000 steps today alone. Today we saw Bison and Elk......awesome you don't get to see that in Malaysia

Day 2 we going to head up north to Mammoth Hot Springs then east to Grand Canton of the Yellowstone, very long drive

~ to be continue ~
