Day 2 in Yellowstone. we started off early after a nice ramen breakfast in our hotel room. We covered many places on Day 2. Looking at the Yellowstone map it's like a infinity sign, and covered the upper loop of the map which start from the west entrance we traveled north east to Norris, then further up north again to Mammoth Hot Springs making a loop to tower Fall and to Canyon Village, total of 98 miles / 158km stopping at, well almost of the scenic area but some have very limited parking space
at the entrance we decided to stop over a scenic stop about 20 minutes into the west entrance where we saw otters enjoying their morning swim
aren't they cute??
1st stop Beryl Spring
boiling hot, nice steam a good match from the morning chills
view of a valley along the way
some hot spring by the road side
they are just everywhere, so it's wise to stay in pave paths and roads
next Artists Paintpots, a stop not to miss. Well parking can be a hassle too, limited space and it take sometimes for visitors to hike in and around the area(about 1 mile). We were lucky to have a parking space though we waited for few minutes and almost given up
hiked in the misty pine forest, takes abut 5 minutes
this place does does look like places i watch in horror movies
it's even spookier in the evening i bet
Blood Geyser, even the geyser's name is spooky
day 2 the weather was cloudy, bad news for my photos but good news it's not as hot as the day before
it's quite a colorful place, hence the name
view from the stop viewing area
mudpot,
it's place is different whole year round, during spring when there is plenty of water, they are soupy and splashy and as summer progress and there is less water, they become thicker and thicker like a bowl of boiling porridge....emmmm yum
the bubbles are cause not by heat but from steam and carbon dioxide gases....look at me talking about chemistry and all...hehe
more splashy mudpot, i wonder if it makes a good mask??
the Gallatin range, view on the way from Norris to Mammoth Hot Springs. We didn't manage to visit Norris geyser basin due to no parking space, it was during those freaky time where everyone happens to be in the same spot. oh well maybe next time?
the Golden Gate Canyon, the 1st bridge was built it 1885, over the years the bridge was rebuilt few times using newer materials and engineering each time
this place is incredible
so huge
Allspark cube....hehe
after a 21 miles drive from Norris, we reached Mammoth Hot Springs
it's a huge place
Dryad spring
Canary Spring
Mammoth Hot Spring
just amazing
this is how the dead microbes looks like when there is not more water in the spring,
dry and grey
view of the main terrace
from here we can see the visitor center
i got to say the wooden path here are nicely done, many places which are wheelchair accessible
walking down to the lower terrace
Mound Terrace
many hot spring dried up this is one of a few that still survive
miscored are still happily living here
Cleopatra terrace
dried up area of Mound Terrace
walking around the Mammoth hot springs terrace is enough to make one tired, we still haven't explore the other hot spots in the area. well time was a factor too, we still need to rush to see the grand canyon of the Yellowstone, which is quite a drive away.
even the walked from Mound Terrace back to our car takes 20 minutes, which is so freaking far away. we then headed down the road to the Albright Visitor center
well that would be for my next entry....
~ to be continue ~
