10 day in Mexico - Day 4 Mexico City

Day 4

woke up early morning, feeling rested and determine to continue with our itinerary and enjoy ourselves and not let yesterday's unfortunate event ruin our long deserving vacation.

We headed to Coyoacan to visit Frida Kahlo's museum via metro. Early morning it was not crowded and it only 7 stops from Ninos Heroes Station (to universidad direction). Metro cost $5pesos/way. However i only recommend taking the metro early morning and avoid peak hours. *There are many cases that people got pickpocket in subway. Always be aware of your surrounding (or take stressfree Uber)

from the Coyoacan metro station it takes another 15 minutes walk to the Frida Kahlo Museum. There is a Starbucks near the metro station, we had breakfast there and use their free WIFI to search the location of the museum at least we can load the map.

We walked more than 15 minutes because we missed a turn and took a longer route but we made it in one piece (i even got to get my morning juice fix for $25pesos ($1.20USD)) after asking few locals

by the time we reach the museum it was 5 minutes to 10am thinking we were on time ( the museum open at 10am) but it was already crowded and the line was 3 hours long already by the time we figure out where to queue.
god bless!!!i knew we had to buy ticket in advance but i wasn't sure we would come. oh well!

tip: best to buy the ticket in advance as the queue for that is shorter and has priority or buy a combo ticket for Frida Kahlo museum and Diego Rivera museum you'll have priority too.
Do not even come if you are short in time or not a fan

still smiling after 2 hours. This is probably the longest time we had to queue ever

finally after almost 3 hours wait we are in by 1pm.
Entrance fee is expensive $250pesos/pax ($12USD) for weekend and weekdays $230pesos/pax ($11USD) hardly any cheaper.
$30pesos ($1.50USD) for professional camera.....phone camera is FREE

spacious garden

Frida Kahlo museum also know as the Blue House is Frida's birthplace and also the home where she grew up

Frida and her husband Diego lived here for several years too

Frida loves her Tehuana traditional dress, not only to hide her imperfections but something she fused with and wore like a second skin. i got to say i love it too....the colorful embroideries is just beautiful

there are collections of her clothes, hair styles, shoes, photographs, paintings and also her body brace

self portrait

this is Body Present offering for Frida Kahlo, this type of alter is usually placed after the 1st year since the departure of a loved one, recreating its body with bread and fruits

The Day of the Dead in Mexico is celebrated on the 1st of NOV for children who passed away and 2nd NOV for the adults. This celebration origin in the Pre-Hispanic era of the Aztec, Mayan, Purepecha and Totonac cultures. This festival has great importance in Mexico and has achieved recognition as a cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO

the offering includes the favorite objects of the honoree, For Frida, her Tehuana attire, Mexican jewelry, Mexican shawl, flowers, canvases, brushes and pieces of popular art

the 4 elements must be present : the air (represented by the chopped paper), the fire (materialized by the candles), water (drinks) and mother earth (food)

and that ends our visit to Frida Kahlo museum, it's not very big 1 hour is enough.

By the time we finish it 2pm. As we have wasted enough time we decided to take the taxi to Chapultepec Park. Cost $250pesos ($12USD) for 15 minutes taxi ride. It's expensive but we don't have WIFI to call Uber (propably half the price) or time to bargain with the drive..... lol can't win it all.

Sunday at Chapultepec park is crowded and full with kiosks, selling all sorts of things from fresh fruits, chicharron to toys. There are so much to see in this Park and it's HUGE, (Museums, zoo, castle, theme park and restaurants)  however we only have time for 1 as many close at 5pm. We were torn between Museum of Anthropology or Chapultepec Castle....and the winner goes to Chapultepec Castle!!!

before that, time for some snacks and fruits....so hungry only had Starbucks sandwich all morning

Chapultepec Castle or Castillo de Chapultepec, a historic 18th century castle located on a hilltop on the east side of the park with views of Mexico city and houses the National Museum of History.
The hike up took us a good 15 minutes

there is bag check (no food or drinks) but it move fast. Good thing about going on a Sunday, it's FREE!!
usually the entrance free cost $70pesos/pax ($3.40USD) still it's cheap considering the size and there is so much to see

so excited, we made the right choice to come here

view of the park, Bosque de Chapultepec, a vast green space that covers some 1,695 acres and is otherwise known as Mexico City's "lungs". Unfortunately the sky was really hazy but impressive view nonetheless

dining room

love the elegant spiral staircase

drawing room

beautiful elegant bathroom

we spend about 2 hours just taking our time to walked around the castle until it closes at 5pm.
really worth the visit definitely recommend this castle

Monument of the Ninos Heroes near the foothill,
was dedicated to the soldier died defending the castle while it was taken by United States forces during the Battle of Chapultepec of the Mexican - American War

from the park we decided to walk back to Roma which was not very far, about 30-40 minutes power walk using only a map we got from our hotel it's quite straight forward and easy to navigate

on the way home we came across a taco joint in Roma not too far away from our hotel... decided to give it a try!
everything is in Spanish but the cashier was kind and patient to go through with us the menu in English

i ordered the special big taco Nortena (pork cheek ) and Boon ordered special big taco Campechana (beef) yummy!, Price, $115pesos for each special big taco ($5.60USD) slightly pricey than the street taco stand, however this is a restaurant and the potion is really generous. one of this is enough! and they have a tray of different sauces to choose from

zoom in to my yummylicious crispy pork cheek with sauteed onion and peppers and avocado and fried potato on the side. really finger licking good!!! i would recommend this joint!

back to El moro for our last hot coco with churros this time we had Swiss chocolate with whipped cream......nice end to our Day 4

we had a nice outing today and back to our hotel safe and sound!

tomorrow we are heading to Cancun

~ hasta mañana ~
