Vacation in Hawai'i 2019 - Day 7

Day 6 - our last full day in Hawaii!

beautiful view of Waikiki beach. Morning we had a nice swim at the beach! going to miss this morning swim ritual

after a morning at the beach, I'm famish!
we decided to have a buffet lunch @ Duke's Waikiki! Starts at 11:30am and we were right on time
the lunch buffet cost $19/pax and they even have a poke station, salad station, some local Hawaiian dishes and etc. Which was a good deal in my opinion....hahaha normal price for lunch already cost us the same amount with smaller food potion. * they even have buffet breakfast

first round :)

after a full full lunch. We went shopping at a duty free shopping center... lol bought some silly hats and a bag. Tax in California is really high we save at least 9.25% of sales tax :D

love that in the tourist area there are human information guide where tourist can asked for direction, information about places to visit and events happening in the area. (thanks to her we got to know that tonight there is a firework at the Hilton Hawaiian Village).Very Very safe in Honolulu, despite seeing alot of homeless people at the beach

rocking his new hat. only $5.

our dinner @ Steak Shack near the Hawaii Army Museum Society
line was long for this little small kiosk
food was good. We had the 10oz combo plate for $13.75 (Cash only) this time we came prepared :)

by sunset we walked to Hilton Hawaiian Village, Waikiki beach for their Weekly Friday night fireworks. They have luau too and it was super crowded

the Hilton Hawaiian Village fireworks start at 7:45pm or 8pm depends when the sunsets
it only lasted 5 minutes if you are not in the area by that time don't bother rushing over.

A perfect end to our one week vacation to Hawaii! Boon love it much that he wants to retired here...haha
overall we had a wonderful vacation in O'ahu Island, Hawaii, from beautiful scenery, crystal clear water to yummy food. I would definitely like to come visit again in future but before that maybe visit to other islands of Hawaii??

till next adventure

Vacation in Hawai'i 2019 - Day 6

Day 6 - hitting the town, Honolulu

Today we are going to buy the one day bus ticket ($5.50/pax) to explore around Honolulu town!

first stop breakfast!
we stopped over at Ala Moana Hawai'i's Center. It's kind of a mall with food courts, grocery stores, shopping and lots more.

there is a Foodland grocery store, love this store! alot of food options

they even have a Poke station! and price is reasonable. You can try all before deciding what you want

Boon settled for spicy tuna! Comes with rice too

there is also a Japanese food court with lots of options from ramen, udon to pork katsu curry rice. i had a spicy ramen. It's open at 10am!

taking the bus is easy in Honolulu, they announce every single stopped with names and attractions.
From Ala Moana we took the bus #3 to Iolani Palace. There are many bus options to get here, just check google map for detail direction, very easy!

Hawaiian State Art Museum, this place really got my hometown's feel (Penang) with the colonial buildings

just across the road is the Iolani palace

ticket office is at this building. Entrance fee to the palace is $20 with audio guide

Iolani palace

love the banyan trees so huge and just give a good shade to the area

just opposite the road is the courthouse and post office

trying to looking for the post office

just next door is Ali'iolani Hale building with the statue of King Kamehameha

originally this building was designed as a palace built by Kamehameha V to house the legislature courts and cabinet offices

a Kuan Yin temple (Goddest of Mercy) just next door to the botanical garden

we then took the bus wanting to visit the Foster Botanical Garden, from outside it look abit small and entrance fee was $5/pax we decided to skipped it as it look abit like the one in our hometown figured we would know many trees there. Also the weather was too hot to enjoy

we walked to the nearest bust stop to head back to our hotel for a nice afternoon nap

after a nice shower and afternoon nap, we head out fro dinner.

after dinner it was just nice to see the sunset at the beach

while we were enjoying a nice stroll at the beach we stumble across a Hawaiian luau at the Royal Hawaiian resort. We watched it from the beach (the free version). Apparently it's a weekly open-air luau with buffet dinner and a hula and music show. we did enjoyed it even we saw their back most of the time  :D hehe

and we enjoyed the night sky from the beach

Vacation in Hawai'i 2019 - Day 5

Day 5- Time for roadtrip! explore Oahu island.

we rented a car for the day with Enterprise @ our hotel. $75* for 1 day(tax included) pick up was easy just at our hotel car park. * Price can vary everyday

After pick-up we went to Safeway(grocery store) to buy some fruits(bought some cut pineapples and tangerine) and some snacks for the roadtrip

next we need breakfast! Had to try this Malasadas, they are a thing here!

line was long but it's moving fast
* someone is rocking his new t-shirt from Crazy Shirts :D

bought 2 guave, 2 macadamia, 1 chocolate and 1 lilikoi(passion fruit)
with all the sugar it's not really that sweet and the dough is crunchy outside(when it's fresh out) and warm and soft inside....totally recommend this. We do like their macadamia :)

Now we are fully loaded and ready for our roadtrip

short visit to Dole Plantation / toilet break hehe

there are train ride, maze and some other attraction but we are short on time so it was just a short visit and few photos

we have pineapple in Malaysia, so it's nothing too interesting for us

more silly pictures

alright continue our journey to the north shore

picturesque mountain view

can see rows of pineapple plantation from the highway 99

Laniakea beach, was hoping to see sea turtles, guess it's not our lucky day

driving up north east, we come across a nice place for snorkeling @ Pupukea Marine Life Conservation District. We arrived at about 9:30am-10am, it was not very crowded
alot of sharp rock best to have water shoe

we didn't plan this, just happen to stumble across this beautiful place by luck as we were driving along the coastal road. Luckily we brought along our snorkeling gear, no rental here but there is a toilet, shower and changing area. It's totally FREE no entrance fee, just park car(quite limited) and start snorkeling

Boon had a bad sunburn from 2 days ago, this time he wore a t-shirt to prevent further damage to his skin

the water was shallow, clear, calm and just gorgeous

i saw so many fishes

kids and baby can also enjoy this place as the water is really calm

we spend about 1-2 hours here and i was hungry....time for some Giovanni's Aloha Shrimp Truck, which i have been reading, it's a must have in the north shore

one last selfie with this wonderful place. Highly recommended

Giovanni's Aloha Shrimp truck!
easy parking and the truck is just by the road side with a nice set up.

My heart skipped a beat when i see CASH ONLY on the truck window. I was like F#$%^K i did not have much cash(in another wallet in our hotel F#*K!). We found $18 in total of cash only and one plate cost $14.00(comes with a dozen jumbo shrimp and 2 small scoops of rice)

Can't believe this is actually happening! thank god we still can afford 1 freaking plate
if not we would have been really upset...like REALLY upset!

there are 3 flavors, original which is Scampi (which is what we ordered), Hot and Spicy and Lemon Butter.
The shrimp is yummy but the rice is alittle under cooked
hardly full and i'm still pissed. Guess what we didn't even bring along debit card(which we can still go to a nearby petrol station's ATM) just stupid credit card!

lesson learned, bring cash for food truck!!!!

at least the frozen yogurt take credit card.....i need to cool down with a nice big Acai bowl

drove just further down we come across a Kahuku Superette, they have fresh poke and they take credit card. Boon said they taste like the sea

alright move on!

Next Polynesian Cultural Center, it's a really big area, entrance fee to see cultural show and luau is quite pricey $60/pax for 3 days. Why can't they be like $30 for one day???
so we just walked around the area (this is free) hehe

enjoying the free things in life...hehe

a short stop over @ Ahupua'a 'O Kahana State park

it's really quiet and peaceful here! village life

continue our journey

another absolutely stunning place to visit Kualoa Ranch, it's a private nature reserve and working cattle ranch as well as a popular tourist attraction(horse riding, bus guided tour, zip line, ATV...etc)  . I think it's where about 79 movies and TV shows have been filmed here over the years, including Jurassic Park, Jumanji, Hawaii-five 0 and Lost

absolutely WOW

is this mangosteen tree?

best to come early to have more time to do all the awesome attractions here

feel like i'm in Jurassic world. We didn't do any of the tours or attraction just walked around the area to see the magnificent mountain was FREE. Time was limited, oh well maybe next time!the ATV definitely!

ok to Manoa Falls, our last destination of the day.
the weather is cloudy but we did saw alot of beautiful rainbows

but before that a short detour to korean fried chicken @ Honolulu
$26 for whole chicken or $15 for half

i'm starving!!!! we bought whole chicken* with 2 flavors ( spicy and garlic) comes with some fried cheese sticks and 2 drinks

* we did NOT finished the chicken but we came close

Manoa Falls trail. Entrance is free but parking is $5 ( thank god they take credit card)

we arrived at about 5pm, it was raining and abit dark but i read that the weather here is always raining and the trail is muddy. oh well we came prepared to get dirty. The trail is about 1.6 miles round trip which was not too bad as we had limited time before it gets dark.

Manoa Falls was used in Movies too eg: Jurassic Park, Catching Fire. TV Shows like Lost and Hawaii five-0

at the beginning the trail is still nice and dry not too muddy
but toward half way it starts to get muddy and slippery. It was raining on and off

the trail was quite empty and we took our own sweet time

it's really shaded, nice place to come in the hot afternoon

the trail was easy to hike

it took us about 30-40 minutes to reached the waterfall. By the time we finished the trail, there are still people coming in. There are also a water hose at the car park to clean muddy shoes

And that is our one day ultimate Oahu road trip. A little taste of everything!

car rental with easy dropped off with the hotel valet!

Dinner continue with our Korean fried chicken in our hotel room with a rental movie.
The perfect end to our perfect day! :)
