"WOW" was the 1st word that came out of my mouth when i walk in this church. St Peter's Basilica is a major basilica in Vatican City, an enclave of Roma. St Peter's Basilica stands on the traditional site where Peter(the first pope) was crucified and buried. His tomb is under the main altar and together with other popes.
In 324, Emperor Constantine began construction this basilica over St Peter's tomb. Till the mid-15th century it was decided that the old basilica should be rebuilt. They start adding toe the old church but was abandoned after a short while. In the late 15th century Pope Siztus IV had the Sistine Chapel started nearby and it was completed in 1615. Michelangelo(main architect for a while) designed the dome, and Bernini designed the great St Peter's Square.

There are over 100 tombs within St Peter's Basilica, many located in the Vatican grotto, beneath the Basilica. These include 91 popes, St ignatius of Antioch, Holy Roman Emperor Otto II and the composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. Also Queen Christina of Sweden(middle pic) and most recent interment was Pope John Paul II.
